We Are Aliens drops theme song trailer ahead of September 25 debut
We Are Aliens drops its theme song trailer featuring "Sasakure" by adieu.
The anime film We Are Aliens has released a theme song trailer featuring "Sasakure" by adieu, ramping up momentum toward its Japan opening on September 25.
Directed by Kōhei Kadowaki—who also handled planning, scriptwriting, storyboarding, and editing—the film follows two childhood friends, Tsubasa and Gyōtarō, as they confront their shared past. Ryōta Bandō voices Tsubasa, with Amane Okayama as Gyōtarō.
The project has already logged serious festival credentials. It screened at Cannes and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and will continue its international run at festivals in Ottawa, Melbourne, and New Zealand. CHARADES has licensed the film to distributors across Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand, signaling confidence in its cross-regional appeal.
The film's path to screen was crowdfunded—a campaign that exceeded its target and raised 9,604,510 yen, a clear signal that audiences were invested before a single frame hit theaters. That kind of community backing, paired with a director pulling quadruple duty and a track record of festival play, suggests We Are Aliens is positioned as something more than a standard anime release. The theme song trailer is the final push before it lands in Japanese cinemas.
