RoboCop Gets Eight-Episode Reboot Series on Prime Video

There's a new take on RoboCop headed to Prime Video, and it's bringing some serious creative firepower along with it. An eight-episode series is in development, with James Wan attached as executive producer—a name that carries real weight in genre storytelling. The writing and showrunning duties fall to Peter Ocko, who's also co-executive producing.

What makes this feel like it could work is the respect being paid to what came before. The original 1987 film's co-creators, Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, are on board as executive producers, which suggests the series isn't looking to discard the DNA of the source material entirely. Instead, the stated aim is to honor the original while charting a fresh direction for the story—a balance that's trickier than it sounds, but worth attempting with a property this iconic.

Production is being handled by Blumhouse Atomic Monster, the production banner that's become known for bringing genre projects to life with a particular sensibility. There's no official release date set just yet, so we're still in the early stages of what this will actually look like when it lands.

It's an interesting moment for RoboCop as a franchise.
