Kevin Feige on Blade: 'I Feel Like a Gigantic Loser'

The Blade reboot is in trouble, and Kevin Feige isn't hiding how he feels about it. The Marvel Studios head has openly expressed his sense of failure over the stalled project, which was announced back in 2019 with Mahershala Ali attached to star.

The film has been through multiple script revisions and is currently on hiatus, a trajectory that's left Feige grappling with the gap between ambition and execution. Despite Ali's apparent enthusiasm and genuine fan interest in seeing the character rebooted, the project hasn't moved forward in any meaningful way.

The Blade situation is particularly frustrating given the momentum Marvel had when the announcement dropped. Ali seemed like the right fit, the character has real cultural weight, and there was genuine excitement in the fandom. But somewhere between concept and production, things stalled. The script changes suggest the team was searching for the right story—a common challenge in superhero development, but one that's clearly weighed on Feige.

It's worth noting that Wesley Snipes, who originated the role, did get to return for a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, which at least gave the character some screen time in the MCU's recent slate. That appearance, however, only underscores what fans are missing: a full Blade film that never quite materialized.

The uncertainty extends beyond the movie itself. There's also cloudiness around Marvel's Blade video game in development at Arkane Lyon, adding another layer to what's become a complicated chapter in Marvel's slate.

Feige's candor about the failure is refreshing in an industry that typically spins delays and cancellations into vague studio speak. It signals that the disappointment is real, and that getting Blade right remains a priority—even if the path forward isn't clear yet.
