Grotesqqque Drops First Track Ahead of November Debut
Grotesqqque, the new anime film, has released its first track from the 'A(E)liens' segment.
CloverWorks' omnibus anime film Grotesqqque has released its opening salvo: a song from the 'A(E)liens' segment, composed by Tsumiki and performed by Nanahira. The track arrives as the film gears up for its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival, followed by a Japan theatrical release on November 6.
Directed by Atsushi Nishigori—who also handled screenplay and character design—Grotesqqque stitches together three distinct stories: 'A(E)liens', 'Yoroshiku★Girl', and 'Nocturne: Nuit Grotesque'. Each operates in its own worldview, a structural choice that demands serious musical scaffolding. The film enlists 35 musical acts to pull it off, which is either ambitious or chaotic depending on your tolerance for sensory overload.
The production itself is a corporate Voltron: JOEN, a company established by Aniplex, CloverWorks, Wit Studio, and Shueisha, is producing. That's a lot of heavy hitters betting on three weird stories and a sprawling soundtrack.
The Nanahira track signals that Grotesqqque is swinging for something genuinely strange—the kind of project that banks on visual and sonic weirdness as its actual selling point, not a side effect. Whether that lands or crashes will become clear once the film hits screens.
