GKIDS has released an English-subtitled trailer for cocoon – One Summer of Girlhood, signaling the distributor's push to bring the anime adaptation to North American audiences. The film will arrive in theaters starting September 4, with both Japanese audio and an English dub available.

Based on Machiko Kyō's manga, the anime follows two girls—Mayu, voiced by Hikari Mitsushima, and San, voiced by Marika Itō—through a formative summer. Director Yukimitsu Ina helms the project, while composer kensuke ushio provides the score.

The theatrical push marks a significant move for anime distribution in North America, where anime films increasingly compete for mainstream cinema slots alongside traditional live-action releases. By offering both language options from day one, GKIDS is hedging its bets on reaching both subtitled purists and English dub audiences—a strategy that reflects the growing diversity of anime fandom across the region.
