Shortly after the recent announcement, Aniplex and Crunchyroll just dropped a character art teaser for the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime, and the lineup behind it reads like a who's who of anime talent.

The adaptation of Sucker Punch's samurai game will premiere on Crunchyroll in 2027, with KAMIKAZE DOUGA handling animation production under the oversight of HAYATE Inc. Director Takanobu Mizuno is steering the ship, while character designer Takashi Okazaki—best known for Caravan Palace—is bringing the visual identity to life.

What's particularly interesting is the writing team: Satoshi Maejima and Gen Urobuchi are collaborating on the script, with Urobuchi also handling story composition. Urobuchi's track record with projects like Psycho-Pass and Fate/Zero suggests this adaptation won't shy away from narrative complexity.

The anime follows the game's core premise—a samurai defending Tsushima Island against the Mongol Empire—though how faithfully it'll adapt the source material remains to be seen. The teaser is currently just character art, so we're still waiting for actual footage, but the creative pedigree here is solid enough to warrant attention.
