Disney+ has pulled the plug on Wonder Man, the Marvel series that was already renewed for a second season and drawing serious critical praise.

The cancellation stings harder because Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who headlined the show as Simon Williams, earned an Emmy nomination for the role. Ben Kingsley co-starred as Trevor Slattery. The series had landed with audiences and critics alike, earning recognition for its writing and character work—the kind of foundation that usually signals a show has found its footing.

What makes this move particularly sharp: a writers' room for season two was never even opened. The writing staff has been released. So this isn't a mid-production pivot or a slow fade. Disney greenlit the show for more, then reversed course before the next chapter could begin.
