Studio ENGI has announced that the sequel to The Detective Is Already Dead won't arrive until October 2026—a notable shift from the originally planned July release. The delay came with a new promotional video that gave fans their first real look at what's coming.

The core creative team remains intact. Director Manabu Kurihara is back at the helm, with Deko Akao handling scripts and Yōsuke Itō designing the characters. The fresh addition is producer 40mP, who's taking charge of the sound department while also composing the soundtrack and writing both the opening and closing themes.

Those themes carry some weight. The opening, "Kono Shinzō ni Hanabata o," will be performed by Kōme, while Kagura Nana handles the closing track "Hakuchumu." The voice cast includes Arata Nagai, Saki Miyashita, Ayana Taketatsu, Kanon Takao, and Saho Shirasu reprising their roles.

While delays in anime production aren't uncommon—studios often need more time to maintain quality—pushing a release from summer to autumn suggests ENGI wanted breathing room to refine the project. The new promotional material should help tide fans over until the October 2026 premiere.
