Demon Slayer Film, Exit 8 Land Critics Choice Nods
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Exit 8 receive Critics Choice nominations.
The first Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle anime film and the live-action Exit 8 have both secured nominations for the Critics Choice Awards, with winners announced August 6.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle I is in the running alongside Exit 8, which also earned a nomination for lead actor Kazunari Ninomiya in the "Best Actor in a Superhero Movie" category.
The Demon Slayer film opened in Japan on July 18, 2025, and ran for 266 days before closing on April 9. Domestically, it sold 27.4 million tickets and earned 40.2 billion yen (approximately $252.5 million). Globally, the numbers are substantially larger: 98.5 million tickets sold worldwide, generating 117.9 billion yen (roughly $740.5 million). That's the kind of box office performance that gets industry attention.
Crunchyroll will stream the film worldwide outside Japan and Mainland China starting July 28, expanding its reach beyond theatrical runs.
Exit 8, which opened in Japan in August 2025, earned 960.8 million yen (about $6.46 million) in its first three days—a solid start for a live-action adaptation. The Critics Choice nomination for Ninomiya signals the film resonated beyond domestic audiences.
Both films represent a notable moment for anime and anime-adjacent properties in major awards recognition. The takeaway: anime films are no longer fringe contenders at mainstream award ceremonies.
