CloverWorks' Ambitious Anthology 'GROTESQUE' Arrives November 2026

CloverWorks is betting big on an unconventional format for its next original film. GROTESQUE, directed by Atsushi Nishigori, will hit theaters nationwide on November 6, 2026, as a three-part anthology rather than a single narrative—a structure that demands confidence in both concept and execution.

Nishigori, who also wrote and designed characters for the film, has structured GROTESQUE around three distinct stories: Elians, Yoroshiku Shojo, and Nocturne ~In This Grotesque Night~. The segmented approach gives the director room to explore different tones and aesthetics within a single feature, though it's a gamble that only pays off if each segment justifies its place in the whole.

The opening theme, "Shoot Shoot Shoot," will be performed by METALVERSE, setting the tone for what appears to be a deliberately unconventional project. The title itself—spelled with doubled Q's—signals that visual and thematic strangeness are central to what Nishigori is attempting.
