Clayface Trailer Goes Full Body Horror—DC's Darkest Turn Yet

DC Studios just dropped a trailer for Clayface that abandons the superhero playbook entirely. This is a horror film, full stop—and it's coming from the exact creative minds you'd want steering that ship.

Directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan, the film stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, a character whose life descends into nightmare after a disfiguring incident. The trailer leans hard into psychological horror and body horror, which is a genuinely bold move for a DC property. Instead of capes and quips, you're getting transformation body horror—the kind of visceral, skin-crawling stuff that Flanagan has made his signature.

This isn't the Clayface you know from the comics, at least not in tone. The character's malleable, shape-shifting physiology becomes the vehicle for something much darker: the dissolution of identity, the loss of control over your own body, the creeping terror of watching yourself become something unrecognizable. It's the kind of premise that works best when treated as pure horror, which is exactly what's happening here.
