A Certain Item of Dark Side Gets October 9 Premiere, New Trailer

The underground organization ITEM is stepping into the spotlight. A Certain Item of Dark Side, a new anime spinoff set in Academy City's criminal underbelly, will premiere on October 9, 2026, and has just dropped its main trailer to prove it.

The trailer introduces Chobi Keno, the fifth member of ITEM, rounding out the roster of characters who operate in the shadows of Academy City's darker corners. With Tatsuyuki Nagai directing and J.C. STAFF handling animation duties, the series is positioning itself as a deeper dive into the morally gray side of the franchise's established world.

The soundtrack is shaping up to match the tone. The opening theme, "Ghost Sequence" by East Of Eden, sets a haunting mood, while the ending theme "Meltdowner" by Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets brings its own energy to the mix. Both tracks suggest the series isn't afraid to lean into the gritty atmosphere that defines ITEM's corner of the A Certain universe.

This spinoff continues the franchise's expansion beyond its main storylines, offering fans a chance to explore the franchise's lesser-known but compelling side characters and their operations in the shadows.
