Blue Box Season 2 Trailer Drops Theme Songs, October Premiere Set

The official Blue Box website has released a trailer for the anime's second season, and it comes with the goods: opening theme "Anata no Hana no Iro" by aiko and ending theme "blue in" by elsewhere kikou.

The new season premieres October 4 on TBS and 27 other channels, with Netflix streaming it the same month. This is a meaningful moment for the adaptation—the source manga by Kōji Miura wrapped on July 13, with the final volume arriving December 4. The anime is now in the position of racing toward a conclusion that already exists on the page.

Season 2 brings staffing changes. Daisuke Sakō takes over as director, and Electric Circus steps in as the new animation studio. The cast expands with Yoshino Aoyama joining as Yumeka Kido.

These kinds of mid-series transitions can be make-or-break moments for adaptations. New director, new studio, new voice talent—the chemistry either clicks or it doesn't. The theme songs, at least, suggest someone's thinking carefully about tone. aiko's opening and elsewhere kikou's ending are both established acts with distinct sensibilities, which hints the production team is treating this seriously rather than coasting on season one's momentum.
