Retsu Kaioh from Baki the Grappler is getting an anime isekai spin-off!
TMS has greenlit an anime adaptation of BAKI GAIDEN: KAIOH RETSU Doesn't Mind Getting Isekai'd, the spin-off manga by Eiji Mutsui that launched in October 2020 in Monthly Shōnen Champion. The premise is exactly what the title promises: Retsu Kaioh, the martial artist from the main Baki series, gets reincarnated into another world.
It's a delightfully absurd premise—taking one of the franchise's most disciplined fighters and dropping him into isekai territory. The manga has been running for over four years now, which suggests there's enough material to work with for an adaptation.
For a series built on the premise of finding the strongest fighter alive, the isekai spin-off represents a refreshing tonal shift—less about proving dominance, more about what happens when you're suddenly the strongest person in a completely different ruleset.
