Archie Meets the T-800: Dynamite's Wild Crossover Arrives
Archie Comics and Dynamite Entertainment announce a wild new crossover series.
Dynamite and Archie Comics are about to make the most unexpected collision in pop culture: John Connor is transferring to Riverdale High, and a Terminator is hot on his heels.
The five-issue series Archie vs. the Terminator launches in October as a celebration of the 35th anniversary of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Written by Rory McConville with art from Steven and Lily Butler, the series transplants the sci-fi action franchise into the wholesome halls of Riverdale, where milkshakes and time-traveling assassins apparently coexist.
The premise alone is delightfully absurd: Connor enrolls at the high school while a Terminator pursues him through a world of poodle skirts and teenage romance. It's the kind of mashup that shouldn't work on paper but somehow feels inevitable once you hear it pitched.
This isn't Dynamite's first rodeo with the Terminator license—the publisher has been handling the franchise's comics for years. But pairing it with Archie, one of the longest-running and most recognizable teen characters in comics, is a bold swing. The collaboration speaks to how both publishers are willing to lean into the absurdity of crossovers, treating them not as cynical cash grabs but as genuine creative experiments.
McConville and the Butlers have the unenviable task of balancing two completely different tones: the campy, romantic drama of Riverdale and the relentless, high-stakes action of the Terminator universe. Whether they pull it off remains to be seen, but the fact that someone greenlit this wild premise suggests they're swinging for the fences.
Issue #1 drops in October. For anyone who's ever wondered what Betty and Veronica would do if a cyborg showed up in their town, answers are finally coming.
