Kabaneri Returns: WIT Studio Drops New Short for 10th Anniversary
WIT Studio celebrates Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress's 10th anniversary with a new short.
A decade on, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is back with fresh material. WIT STUDIO has released Mumei Ranman, a new anime short that reunites director Tetsuro Araki with the original creative team to tell a story centered on Mumei and Ikoma.
The short features an original narrative by Araki himself, with the returning voice cast reprising their roles. It's the kind of move that signals genuine investment in a property—not a cash-grab repackaging, but an actual creative return to the world. A commemorative illustration by character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto, also titled Mumei Ranman, was unveiled alongside the short.
The anniversary push extends beyond the anime. A Mumei Ranman scale figure is priced at 35,000 yen, with pre-orders opening July 24.
For fans who've stuck with the series since its 2016 debut, this is the kind of acknowledgment that lands. Araki directing new material for a property he shepherded through its original run signals the studio and production committee aren't treating this as a legacy archive—they're actively revisiting it.
