Aniplex announced during Sony's State of Play that Fate/Extra Record will release on January 28 across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. The remake of Marvelous Entertainment's original Fate/Extra PlayStation Portable game has had a rocky road to launch.

Bandai Namco Entertainment stepped back from publishing the title, and Aniplex took over by mutual agreement. The shift marks a structural reset for a project that has already weathered significant internal change: Kazuya Nino, the game's director and planner, departed Type-Moon studio BB due to personal reasons and health concerns.

The game will ship in two editions—a physical Limited Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition, each bundled with various extras. The remake represents a full reimagining of the 2010 PSP visual novel and tactical RPG hybrid that spawned a franchise including the anime Fate/Extra Last Encore (which aired on Netflix) and multiple spin-off games.

What matters here: Fate/Extra Record is finally locked into a release window after years of development turbulence. For fans of the original's blend of visual novel storytelling and turn-based combat, January 28 is the date to mark.
