X-Men Reboot Casting Reportedly Underway Amid Showrunner's Revelations
Marvel’s long-awaited X-Men reboot is finally shifting out of the Danger Room and into active mission status. Michael Lesslie is on script duty (with more writers likely to join the fray), and Thunderbolts** director Jake Schreier has been tapped to lead the charge. While reports have been a bit all over the map regarding the project’s stage, insider Jeff Sneider recently revealed on The Hot Mic that casting is now underway. That means it might not be long before we know who will be rocking Cyclops’ visor, Rogue’s streak, or Kitty Pryde’s phasing boots.
Rumor-wise, the mutant gossip mill is in overdrive. Harris Dickinson, Margaret Qualley, and Julia Butters have all been linked to Cyclops, Rogue, and Kitty Pryde, respectively, though it’s unclear if those choices are still in play. Hunter Schafer has reportedly been eyed for Mystique, Ayo Edebiri for Storm, and Javier Bardem for the big bad Mr. Sinister. Kevin Feige, a self-confessed mega-fan of Marvel’s merry mutants, has expressed excitement about bringing a fresh take on the X-Men into the MCU—though not everyone’s convinced he’s the perfect Professor X for the job.
Former X-Men ‘97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has thrown a Sentinels-sized shadow over the hype, claiming in recent posts that Feige “resented” the animated show’s success. According to DeMayo, fans were holding X-Men ‘97 up as an example of what the MCU should be doing to win audiences back—a sentiment Feige allegedly didn’t appreciate. With behind-the-scenes drama, big-name casting rumors, and the mutant metaphor back in the cultural spotlight, the stage is set for one of Marvel’s most high-stakes reintroductions yet.
