Varlet High School RPG Game Set for Early Western Release on August 27

Furyu Corporation has announced that its highly anticipated Varlet high school RPG, developed by Team Noir, will debut in North America and Europe earlier than expected on August 27 at 11:00 a.m. EDT and 4:00 p.m. BST, respectively. A new trailer showcasing the game's unique blend of turn-based combat and adventurous school life has also been released, generating buzz among gaming enthusiasts.

Set within the fictional Kousei Academy, the game introduces an innovative virtual reality network known as "Johari." This network facilitates everything from information retrieval to social networking, but it comes with a dark twist. An urban legend circulates about users getting lost in mysterious “Glitches” if their thirst for social approval grows too intense. As players progress, they uncover the alarming truth that some students have already been replaced by monsters that inhabit these Glitches.

Players take on the role of a member of the Student Support Services (SSS), a guild tasked with addressing the academy's escalating issues. The gameplay includes building relationships, strengthening bonds, and engaging in battles to protect the school from threatening entities. However, players must be cautious, as forming close ties might lead to unforeseen complications.

The game employs a "Triad Stats" system to influence character development, divided into Light and Dark Triad traits. Attributes such as morality and sympathy affect dialogue choices and combat skills. The cast features notable voice actors, including Shōhei Komatsu as the Hero and Minori Suzuki as Aruka Arisaka, who also performs the opening theme song "Shiori."

Varlet will also be available in other territories on August 28 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
