The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' 35th Anniversary

The iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) franchise is marking a significant milestone this year: its 35th anniversary. To celebrate, IDW Publishing has released a special edition comic book that captures the essence of the original live-action film.

Special Edition Graphic Novel

This 138-page comic is crafted by the original creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, who adapted it from the screenplay written by Todd W. Langen and Bobby Herbeck. The book features newly-colored artwork, behind-the-scenes layouts, and previously unpublished material from the original 1990 release.

Story Highlights

The graphic novel follows reporter April O'Neil, who teams up with the Turtles—Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael—along with vigilante Casey Jones, to rescue their mentor Splinter from the villainous Master Shredder.

A Legacy in Film

The 1990 film was a groundbreaking adaptation, grossing over $202 million worldwide and setting the stage for numerous sequels. Acknowledging its legacy, the film was re-released in theaters for the 35th anniversary back in August 2025.

Upcoming Projects

As the TMNT journey continues, a new live-action film is slated for theaters on November 17, 2028, alongside another animated feature coming in September 2027, which will follow the success of 2023's Mutant Mayhem. This future installment promises to retain the charm of the original characters while attracting a new generation of fans.

For those who wish to delve into the Turtle's world, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Original Motion Picture Special Edition: 35th Anniversary comic is now available for purchase.
