The Mummy Sequel: John Hannah Joins Originals Fraser and Weisz
John Hannah returns for the upcoming sequel to The Mummy.
John Hannah to Reprise Role in Upcoming Mummy Sequel
British actor John Hannah is set to reprise his role as Jonathan Carnahan in the new Mummy film, joining original stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. The upcoming sequel will be directed by Radio Silence team, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
Rumors of this sequel have circulated for some time, and Universal Pictures has confirmed the film's development. This marks a significant moment as Fraser and Weisz return for their fourth installment in the franchise.
The Legacy of The Mummy
Hannah, who has appeared in all three previous movies, returns as Weisz's character's brother. The original 1999 film, directed by Stephen Sommers, garnered mixed reviews but still achieved cult status among fans over the years.
The franchise includes two direct sequels and a spin-off, The Scorpion King, featuring Dwayne Johnson. However, the most recent reboot starring Tom Cruise failed to connect with audiences, significantly halting further plans for a Dark Universe.
Fraser expressed anticipation for the sequel, reflecting on past challenges:
“The one I wanted to make was never made. I've been waiting 20 years for this call. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”
What Lies Ahead
Additionally, another Mummy movie, directed by Lee Cronin of Evil Dead Rise, is in the works as a horror film, providing fans with different interpretations of the beloved franchise.
Production for Radio Silence's The Mummy sequel is set to commence later this year in London and Morocco, with a theatrical release planned for May 19, 2028.
