Superman Saga Expands with Four New Films in the DCU
The future of Superman looks promising, with James Gunn confirming an ambitious four-film saga for the iconic character in the new DC Universe. Fans can expect an immediate follow-up to the upcoming Superman movie set to release in 2025.
In an exciting revelation, James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, shared details about the planned Superman saga during a recent appearance on The Viall Files With Nick Viall podcast. Rather than the traditional trilogy format, Gunn envisions a more expansive narrative comprised of four films dedicated to the story of the Man of Steel. He emphasized the importance of a long-term vision for Superman, stating:
"What is the long-term story I’m telling here? What is the story that I'm gonna tell about Superman over four movies?"
Gunn also provided encouraging news for eager fans, confirming that the follow-up to the superhero film, set for release in 2025, is already in the works.
"I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga,’"
He teased, assuring that the project is well-prepared for production sooner rather than later.
He elaborated on the interconnected nature of the next film, hinting that it will follow a group of characters already familiar to audiences, with Superman continuing to play a significant role. This suggests that characters such as Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific could have a more prominent presence in the forthcoming installment.
The upcoming Superman film, which kickstarts Chapter One of the new cinematic DC Universe, is set to hit theaters on July 11. With a production budget of approximately $225 million, the film is expected to resonate well with audiences, having grossed an impressive $598 million in pre-release anticipation.
For those eager to catch up, Superman will be available for rent or purchase on digital platforms soon, paving the way for an exciting new era in superhero storytelling.
