The world of animation is buzzing with excitement as Shōji Kawamori, renowned creator and director, prepares to unveil his latest original film, "Labyrinth" (Meikyū no Shiori). Scheduled for release on January 1, 2026, this film promises to be a unique blend of emotion, pop entertainment, and a hint of horror.

The second teaser trailer for "Labyrinth" recently dropped, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect. The trailer not only showcases the film’s intriguing premise but also introduces a new cast member.

The latest addition to the voice cast is Takuto Teranishi, who will voice Kagami Kei, a university student researching the direct connection between smartphones and the human brain. This role marks Teranishi’s debut as a voice actor, and his portrayal of Kei is expected to add a mysterious edge to the narrative.

"Kagami Kei will be a pivotal character in the film, with a mysterious aura that draws people in," says Kawamori.

The film features an impressive lineup of voice actors, each bringing a unique flair to their characters. Suzuka from the pop group Atarashii Gakkō! debuts as Shiori Maezawa, the protagonist who stumbles upon a parallel world. She also voices Shiori@Revolution, an enigmatic extension of Shiori’s identity.

Taizō Harada voices Komori, a character depicted as a rabbit stamp, adding a whimsical touch. The lineup also includes Aoi Itō as Kirara Kurashina, Shiori’s schoolmate, and Jun Saitō as Kento Yamada, her classmate. These characters play vital roles in Shiori’s journey through the labyrinth.

The narrative centers on Shiori Maezawa, an ordinary high school girl whose world turns upside down when her smartphone suddenly breaks. Transported to a deserted parallel Yokohama, she discovers unsolicited photos of herself online. To prevent her alternate self from spiraling out of control, Shiori ventures through a cryptic labyrinth.

Directed by Shōji Kawamori and animated by SANZIGEN, "Labyrinth" promises a fresh concept not tied to any existing franchise. The film’s story is collaboratively conceptualized by Slow Curve, Vector Vision, GAGA, and Fuji Television.

Kawamori has also breathed life into series like Aquarion, AKB0048, Arjuna, and Jūshinki Pandora. Besides direction, his mechanical designs have defined classics like Patlabor and Ghost in the Shell.
