Jeremy Renner, known for his role in Hawkeye, has recently found himself at the center of controversy following accusations made by filmmaker Yi Zhou. She alleged that Renner displayed abusive behavior and sent her inappropriate messages.

The Allegations

Zhou shared her claims on social media and during an interview with the Daily Mail, stating that Renner reportedly sent her explicit images and made threats that caused her to fear for her safety. She further claimed that he threatened to contact ICE regarding her residency status.

In response to these serious accusations, a representative for Renner denied all claims almost immediately. The situation escalated when Renner's lawyer, Marty Singer, issued a cease-and-desist letter to Zhou.

Cease-and-Desist Details

Singer's letter asserts that Renner only had a brief and consensual encounter with Zhou in July 2025 and that he never agreed to participate in her project titled Stardust Future: Stars and Scars. Singer explained that Renner had only consented to being featured in Zhou's Disney documentary.

The letter warned Zhou against exploiting Renner’s identity for any entertainment project without consent; failure to comply could result in significant legal repercussions.

Zhou's Counterclaims

Despite Renner's legal actions, Zhou maintains that she is the victim, alleging that Renner has harassed her as well. She claims that upon signing a Talent Release form for the Disney documentary, Renner unwittingly permitted the usage of his likeness in related works, including Stardust Future. However, the legitimacy of the Talent Release has not been verified.

AI Voice Controversy

Complicating matters further, the nature of Renner's involvement in Stardust Future has been disputed, with Zhou asserting that AI cannot be used to replicate a person’s voice without consent—a point she claims to uphold in her productions.

As this situation unfolds, it raises questions about consent in the entertainment industry and the responsibilities of creators regarding allegations of misconduct. Both parties continue to defend their positions, and further developments are anticipated.
