Capcom Unveils Pragmata: A Groundbreaking Sci-Fi Experience at Gamescom 2025
Capcom showcased a playable demo of Pragmata at Gamescom 2025, revealing its ambitious science fiction title set for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game promises a unique blend of combat, exploration, and narrative.
At Gamescom 2025, Capcom introduced attendees to Pragmata, an eagerly anticipated title that seeks to redefine the sci-fi genre in gaming. Set for launch in 2026, it will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The playable demo allowed players to immerse themselves in an innovative gaming experience that features a hybrid combat system and collaboration between two contrasting protagonists.
The narrative unfolds within a lunar research station where the main character, Hugh, awakens in an unwelcoming environment. He soon encounters Diana, an android child with whom he must work to survive. The station's central AI, IDUS, identifies them as unauthorized users, triggering a series of hostile robot encounters. This foundation hints at a survival-centric storyline intertwined with a complex relationship between human and machine, enriched by strong narrative elements.
A standout aspect of the demo is its combat system, which goes beyond traditional shooting mechanics. Players must seamlessly switch between gunplay and real-time hacking minigames to outsmart enemies. This mechanic enhances subsequent attacks and allows for interaction with the game environment, including unlocking doors and disabling security systems. The game promises a diverse arsenal and encounters with formidable bosses, each with distinct vulnerabilities, introducing a strategic dimension to combat.
Beyond combat, Pragmata incorporates exploration and puzzle-solving elements. Players will encounter obstacles such as laser beams and hidden routes, demanding creative navigation. Hugh's suit enhances gameplay, enabling him to sprint, gain slight elevation, and make daring jumps, adding verticality and variety to the play experience. This design anticipates levels that fuse action, platforming, and intelligent challenge.
Visually, Pragmata embraces a futuristic and realistic aesthetic, rich in holograms and sci-fi environments. While some enemy robot designs may appear generic, Diana's character stands out, embodying a "creepy valley" effect that emphasizes her artificial nature. This design choice not only enhances the game's visual identity but also deepens the emotional narrative.
