Paramount is bringing Freddy Krueger back. The studio has greenlit a new A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot through its genre-focused label, Paramount Primal, with the blessing of the original creator's family.

The project will be produced by members of Wes Craven's estate—his widow Iya Labunka, his son Jonathan Craven, and producer Marc Toberoff. Paramount Primal, headed by J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, will oversee the film's development and release.

What makes this reboot different from previous attempts is the involvement of Craven's inner circle. Rather than handing the franchise to an outside creative team, Paramount has secured the rights to Craven's original script, signaling an effort to honor the architect of the horror classic while moving forward with fresh material. The studio hasn't yet revealed who will write or direct the new film.

It's been 16 years since the last Elm Street entry hit theaters, making this reboot the longest gap between films in the franchise's history. The original 1984 film remains a cornerstone of horror cinema, and any new iteration faces the weight of that legacy.
