Nioh 3's Thrilling Setting

Koei Tecmo and Team NINJA have officially announced that the upcoming action RPG Nioh 3 will take players through the Bakumatsu period, broadening its historical horizons beyond earlier settings like Edo, Sengoku, and Heian.

A New Era of Conflict

In this latest installment, players are thrust into a dark future after Kunimatsu, consumed by darkness, claims the title of eternal shogun. As Edo and much of Japan fall to the Crucible, the city of Kyoto, protected by sacred Spirit Trees, emerges as a stronghold for loyalists fighting desperately against oppression.

Unique Challenges and Enemies

For the first time, players will navigate the Bakumatsu setting, specifically 1800s Kyoto. Iconic locations like Kiyomizu and Honnoji temples have been transformed by the game's mystical darkness. Players are set to battle against Shinsengumi troops, well-trained soldiers equipped with modern firearms and gatling guns, ensuring dynamic combat experiences with ranged, multi-directional attacks—an unprecedented feature in the Nioh series.

New Characters Await

As players join Tokugawa Takechiyo on his journey, they will meet significant historical figures such as Takasugi Shinsaku, Okita Soji, and Tokugawa Yoshinobu, who served as the 15th shogun of the Edo shogunate. These interactions promise to enrich the gameplay experience with unique narratives and battles that reflect the period's tumult.

Release Date

Nioh 3 is scheduled for release on February 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. Be prepared for an action-packed journey into a richly detailed historical landscape.
