Nintendo Confirms No Personal Data Taken in Hack Incident
Nintendo confirms no personal data was retrieved in recent hack.
Nintendo Confirms Data Hack Details
Nintendo has officially acknowledged a data breach following reports from the Sankei Shimbun newspaper. However, the gaming giant reassured fans that no personal, development, or business information was compromised.
According to the cybersecurity-focused Hackmanac X/Twitter account, the hacking group known as Crimson Collective claimed responsibility for the breach, implying they may extort Nintendo by releasing stolen assets.
Background of Previous Breaches
Earlier in October 2024, an incident referred to as the "Teraleak" occurred, in which approximately a terabyte of data pertaining to Game Freak, a Nintendo subsidiary and developer of Pokémon games, was leaked. This breach included sensitive information such as the names and emails of 2,606 current and former employees, as well as details about upcoming projects and assets from earlier games.
Legal Actions
Following the substantial leak, Nintendo took legal action, requesting a subpoena from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to compel Discord to disclose the identity of the individual responsible for the 'Teraleak.'
