Evangelion Franchise Unveils New Anime Series from Studio Khara

A new Evangelion anime series is on the way from Studio Khara!

New Anime Series Announcement

During the 30th anniversary celebration of the beloved Evangelion franchise on February 23, 2026, a highly anticipated new anime series was officially announced. Dubbed “Next Genesis,” this installment is being produced by Studio Khara, co-founded by director Hideaki Anno.

Key Staff Involved

Directors

Kazuya Tsurumaki, known for his work on Gundam GQuuuuuuX, is one of the directors for the new series. Tsurumaki is familiar with the Evangelion universe, having previously served as an assistant director under Anno and directing the Rebuild of Evangelion films.

Joining him is Toko Yatabe, an assistant director on Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time, who also takes on a directorial role.

Script and Music

The series promises to enthrall fans further with contributions from notable creators. Yoko Taro, the acclaimed director and scenario writer of the Nier: Automata game, will be responsible for the scripts and series composition, increasing excitement surrounding the project. Alongside him, Keiichi Okabe will compose the music, amplifying the anticipation.

Anniversary Celebrations

The announcement was part of a larger event, which included the screening of a brand new anime short celebrating the franchise's legacy at the Yokohama Arena.

A Brief History of Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion first aired from October 1995 to March 1996 and has grown to become a cornerstone of anime culture. The series was produced by Gainax, with animation provided by Tatsunoko and directed by Hideaki Anno. Later, in 1997, The End of Evangelion feature film was released as a different conclusion to the original series. The Rebuild of Evangelion film series, which revisited the same narrative with new elements, captivated audiences from 2007 to 2021.

Fans have much to look forward to as Studio Khara embarks on this exciting new journey within the Evangelion universe.
