A new Asuka-centric anime project for Evangelion announced.
New Evangelion Anime Project Featuring Asuka
A new anime centered around Asuka, the pilot of EVA-02, is set to be unveiled during the monumental EVANGELION:30+; 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION festival. This special project, approximately 13 minutes in length, will screen from February 21 to 23, 2026, at the Yokohama Arena.
Project Details
The official account of Khara No.2 Unit has confirmed that Asuka will be the focal point of this new work, described as a "special side story" specifically crafted to honor three decades of the Evangelion franchise.
This upcoming short will not be a mere compilation but a fully original creation, with planning, script, and supervision led by the franchise's original creator, Hideaki Anno. The direction is in the hands of Naoyuki Asano, who previously served as animation director for Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time.
Viewing Experience
Audiences can expect a grand display: the anime will be shown on a massive LED screen, measuring 18 meters wide by 15 meters tall, at the event. It will only be screened once daily during the festival, and special tickets (STAGE AREA or ALL AREA Pass) are required for access, with some options already sold out.
Official Statements
The studio has underlined the exclusive and festive nature of this production through their social media channels, stating:
"This short is being planned and produced specifically for the 30th-anniversary event... We encourage viewers to enjoy a special version of the Evangelion world that can only be experienced through this commemorative screening."
Notable figures from the series, including Kazuya Tsurumaki, Shinji Higuchi, and Ikki Todoroki, are also involved as supervisors, ensuring the quality fans have come to expect.
The Evangelion franchise originally aired from 1995 to 1996, revolutionizing the industry with its storyline of teenagers piloting humanoid weapons against the "Angels." It was redefined in 2007 with the Rebuild of Evangelion film tetralogy, with the last installment released in 2021, making history as the first in the saga to surpass ¥10 billion at the box office, solidifying its cultural legacy.
