Minky Momo Franchise Unveils New OVA for Theatrical Release

The beloved Fairy Princess Minky Momo franchise is making a comeback with a new original video anime (OVA) titled Mahō no Princess Minky Momo Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo (translated as Fairy Princess Minky Momo: A Duo of Sincerity Toward a Dream of Longing). The announcement was made via the franchise’s official website, revealing not only the title but also details about its much-anticipated theatrical release this year.

The Story

The new narrative unfolds in Diginarsa, a dream-filled realm that relies on dream energy to exist. However, this enchanting world faces a serious threat as humanity’s dreams dwindle. In a bid to preserve Diginarsa, the king dispatches three companions—Chamocha, Dettabook, and Pipirupi—to seek aid from Minky Momo. Upon her 12th birthday, Momo receives a smartphone that ignites her transformation into Minky Momo, prompting her to save Diginarsa. As she attempts to gather dream energy, Momo uncovers a concerning trend: a popular app among children reflects shallow ambitions centered on recognition and viewer counts, rather than genuine dreams.

Creative Team

The OVA is under the direction of Ayumu Watanabe, known for titles like Witch Hat Atelier and Space Brothers. The character designs are crafted by Hiroshi Watanabe and Mari Tominaga, seasoned artists from the original 1982-1983 anime series. Deko Akao shoulders the scriptwriting duties, while sound production is managed by Katsunori Shimizu.
