Mia Goth Reflects on the Uncertain Future of Blade Film

Mia Goth, who is set to play the villain Lilith in Marvel's upcoming Blade reboot, recently shared insights about the film's turbulent development. Despite numerous changes in directors and scripts, Goth remains attached to the project.

The Journey to the Blade Reboot

Initially announced back in 2019 during San Diego Comic-Con with Mahershala Ali leading the cast, Blade seemed destined for success. However, the film's release has shifted multiple times, with dates moving from November 2023 to 2025 and eventually being removed from Marvel's schedule.

Several directors, including Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange, have come and gone, with a range of writers attempting to develop a script. The original concept featured a 1920s setting, which excited many fans but was ultimately discarded as the project underwent a total overhaul.

Mia Goth's Insights

In a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz, Goth candidly stated her uncertainty about the film's progress, saying, "I don't know what's going on with that. They want to make it; it's such an important film for them, and they're taking their time with it."

She reflected on the initial concept's potential, recalling how far along it had advanced in production. "Yeah, the furthest it got with me... I flew to Atlanta, did a chemistry test with Mahershala Ali, and even went through costume and wig fittings. I was very excited about the direction."

The Potential of a Lost Era

Goth praised Ali’s unique take on Blade, acknowledging that the project distanced itself from that exciting original vision, lamenting that it "just unraveled from there." This 1920s supernatural noir vision holds promise, hinting at what fans could have seen on-screen.

Other Projects and Future Aspirations

In addition to Blade, Goth discussed her audition for Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars film, Starfighter, illustrating her ongoing engagement with high-profile projects and expressing her admiration for Levy's energetic approach to filmmaking.
