Nearly a decade after its initial announcement, Nintendo has confirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be released for the Switch and Switch 2 on December 4, 2025. This announcement was made during the recent Nintendo Direct, putting an end to months of speculation regarding the game's status.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for updates, especially after the long silence since the big reveal of the Switch 2 back in April, which led some to believe the game might face further delays. Thankfully, today’s showcase provided a fresh glimpse of gameplay, which revealed that Samus Aran will ride a new motorbike-like vehicle called the Vi-O-La in a larger open world.

The development of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been tumultuous. Initially begun at Bandai Namco Studios, the project was rebooted at Retro Studios due to Nintendo's dissatisfaction with the progress after two years. Following a lengthy hiatus, the game was officially re-announced in 2024 as a cross-generation title. Today’s Direct also featured a wealth of updates regarding other popular franchises, including Mario, Pokémon, and Yoshi.
