Super Smash Bros. and Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai has announced that his life story is to be featured in an upcoming educational manga titled "Manga de Shiru Hito to Shigoto Sakurai Masahiro Game de Sekai wo Motto Tanoshiku" (Learn about People and Work Through Manga: Masahiro Sakurai - Making the World More Fun with Games). This book is set to release on November 18, just ahead of his new game, Kirby Air Riders, launching for the Nintendo Switch 2.

A Journey Through Gaming

The 160-page manga details Sakurai's early encounters with video games, the inception of Kirby, and the genesis of Super Smash Bros. It also covers the founding of his company, Sora Ltd., and gives insights into his legacy and future aspirations as a game developer. As the supervisor of the manga, Sakurai ensures an authentic portrayal of his experiences.

Achievements and Future Plans

Sakurai founded Sora Ltd. in September 2005 and is known for developing Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS. His latest contribution to the Super Smash Bros. series, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, was released in December 2018, featuring every character from previous titles and supporting up to eight-player battles.

In addition to his game development work, Sakurai has gained a following on his YouTube channel, "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games”, where he shares insights into game development. He filmed content for this channel two and a half years ago, providing fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the gaming industry.

Awards and Recognition

Sakurai’s contributions to the gaming field have not gone unnoticed; he received the Art Encouragement Prize from Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology during the 75th annual awards.
