Bandai recently announced at the Tamashii Nation 2025 event that it will re-release the original 1/55-scale VF-1J Valkyrie toy from The Super Dimension Fortress Macross anime in 2026, marking a celebration of the toy and anime's upcoming 45th anniversary.

Bandai Revives the Iconic Macross Valkyrie Toy

The upcoming release, dubbed the "Origin of Valkyrie: VF-1J Valkyrie 45th Anniv.," includes several enhancements:

  • New Joints: The toy adds thigh swivel joints for improved playability.
  • Design Improvements: The new version maintains the original design while featuring more printed markings instead of stickers, enhancing its aesthetic.

Although these enhancements make it more playable, it is noted that it may not be as poseable as recent Transformers toys.

The original VF-1J Valkyrie toy made its debut in November 1982, just a month after the release of the anime. Subsequent variations followed in the years thereafter. Bandai acquired the manufacturing molds and has released several reissues and variants over the years, including those that became part of the Transformers line as Jetfire.

This revival marks an exciting moment for fans and collectors alike, reintroducing a beloved item from anime history. With new features that cater to both nostalgia and playability, the VF-1J Valkyrie is set to captivate a new generation in 2026.
