Lupin the IIIrd: The Immortal Bloodline Set to Stream

Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that it will stream Lupin the IIIrd: The Immortal Bloodline on March 24 at midnight EDT (March 23 at 9:00 PM PDT). This new feature from the iconic Lupin III franchise recently saw a theatrical release in the U.S. on January 4-6.

Overview of the Film's Plot

The movie follows master thief Lupin III and his crew as they receive a mysterious invitation to an uncharted island. Following a series of skilled assassins, the gang is shot down while en route and must navigate the dangers posed by the island's residents and a monstrous being known as Muom. A toxic fog surrounds them, complicating their escape and raising the stakes even higher for Lupin and his allies.

The film marks a significant return for the franchise, being the first traditional 2D anime feature in almost 30 years. Directed by Takeshi Koike, who has previous experience with the series, the screenplay is written by Yūya Takahashi and features music composed by James Shimoji. Notably, the rock band B'z has contributed the theme song "The IIIRD Eye." The movie was produced by TMS Entertainment and distributed by TOHO NEXT.

Premiere and Reception

Since its premiere in Japan on June 27, the film garnered approximately 130 million yen (around USD 909,500) in its opening days. It represents a promising continuation of the franchise, especially when fans consider its legacy alongside past films and series.

For Lupin fans new and old, the upcoming streaming release on Amazon Prime Video is highly anticipated.
