Filming Begins for the Live-Action Legend of Zelda Movie

The much-anticipated live-action adaptation of the iconic video game series, The Legend of Zelda, has officially started filming, as confirmed by franchise co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto. On November 17, 2025, Miyamoto released three stills featuring the lead actors, Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.

Details About the Production

The film is set to premiere on May 7, 2027, a slight delay from its initially planned release date of March 26, 2027. Nintendo is financing over 50% of the project, collaborating with Sony, which is also contributing to the film's budget.

Behind the Scenes

Wes Ball, known for directing Maze Runner, will helm the movie. Miyamoto is on board as a producer alongside Avi Arad, the Chairman of Arad Productions Inc. The script is penned by Derek Connolly, famous for his work on Jurassic World. Sony will also manage the film's distribution.

Background and Expectations

The journey to bring The Legend of Zelda to the big screen has been ongoing for years, with discussions surfacing over time about various adaptations, including a** Netflix** series proposal that Nintendo later denied. However, the live-action film has gained momentum following the success of the 3D animated film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which performed well globally.
