Legend of the Galactic Heroes Manga Nears Its Conclusion
Fujisaki's Legend of the Galactic Heroes manga heads toward its final battle.
The 33rd compiled volume of Ryū Fujisaki's Legend of the Galactic Heroes manga, released on August 19, indicates that the series is approaching its "final battle." Beginning its run in October 2015 in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump, the manga transitioned to Ultra Jump in February 2020. This adaptation is based on Yoshiki Tanaka's renowned space opera novel series, which chronicles the intense conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance, enriched by the personal narratives of key figures like Imperial Admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm and Alliance strategist Yang Wen-Li.
Viz Media has brought the original novel series to English-speaking audiences through its Haikasoru imprint, as well as publishing translations of Fujisaki's other works, including Hoshin Engi and WaqWaq. The enduring legacy of Legend of the Galactic Heroes includes a robust anime adaptation history, with the late director Noboru Ishiguro and his Artland studio producing over 100 installments of theatrical and video adaptations from 1988 to 2000. Sentai Filmworks has since licensed these adaptations for home video release.
The recent anime adaptation, Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These, first aired as a 12-episode series in April 2018. It has since produced additional content in the form of films and subsequent seasons, with the fourth season, Die Neue These - Intrigue, releasing in limited theatrical runs in late 2022. Excitingly, production for a sequel series was green-lit in 2023, ensuring the continuation of this beloved narrative.
