Kyoto Animation Unveils "Sparks of Tomorrow"
Kyoto Animation recently announced during its "KyoAni no Sekai-ten" event that its upcoming anime adaptation of Hiro Yūki's novel, 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku, is set to air in 2026. The series will be titled Sparks of Tomorrow, and an introductory video with English subtitles has confirmed the title for international audiences.
Meet the Characters
The anime will feature:
- Yūma Uchida as Kihachi Sakamoto, a boy passionate about inventing and machines, haunted by the loss of his dreams linked to his older brother.
- Sora Amamiya as Inako Momokawa, a clumsy and shy girl from Kyoto, aspiring to follow in her late mother's footsteps as a chief sake brewer.
Production Team
The series is directed by Minoru Ōta, marking his directorial debut. The script is overseen by Tatsuhiko Urahata, with Kohei Okamura as the chief animation director and character designer. The music will be composed by Hitomi Kotō.
Story Overview
Set in 1907, during the Meiji era, the narrative follows Inako as she struggles with her father's decisions about her future while meeting Kihachi, who dreams of the electric age. Together, they embark on a quest to recover an important book that holds the key to their futures.
Kyoto Animation announced this project in July 2018, and the original novel received an honorable mention at the 8th Kyoto Animation Awards.
