New Anime 'The World of Lafcadio Hearn's Kwaidan' Set to Premiere
New anime 'The World of Lafcadio Hearn's Kwaidan' launches October 2.
Animation studio DLE, alongside TSK San-in Central Television, has announced a new short anime/AI series titled The World of Lafcadio Hearn's Kwaidan, set to debut on October 2. This innovative program will feature two versions: an 'Anime Look Version' and a 'Live-Action Look Version'. The series draws inspiration from the works of the renowned writer Lafcadio Hearn, also known as Koizumi Yakumo, who had a profound impact on Japanese ghost story literature.
The show includes 13 eerie tales from Japan. Each version will showcase a different animation technique; the anime-style version will have a traditional 2D look while the live-action style emphasizes the horror elements through photorealistic AI effects. The 'Anime Look Version' will air on October 2 at 8:54 p.m. JST, followed by the 'Live-Action Look Version' starting on October 3 at 12:45 a.m. JST.
FROGMAN, the newly appointed president of DLE, will direct, write, and edit the show, while popular voice actors Chafūrin and Miki Itō are set to lend their voices to the characters. The original characters' designs were crafted in-house, ensuring a unique approach to storytelling.
Koizumi Yakumo, who was a teacher in Japan after being inspired by traditional Japanese literature, eventually became a naturalized citizen. FROGMAN, who has made his mark with works like the Secret Society Eagle Talon, was appointed as the new director on June 23, succeeding Hideo Hoshi.
