Katsuhiro Ōtomo Unveils 'Procession Spin' at Ginza Station

The Tokyo Metro railway company has recently unveiled a stunning public art installation titled Procession Spin by renowned manga creator Katsuhiro Ōtomo, celebrated for his work on Akira. This impressive piece is now featured prominently at the Hibiya Line's Ginza Station.

Ōtomo personally created the original artwork and supervised its transformation into a three-dimensional sculpture. The vision behind this installation aims to enrich the ambiance of Ginza Station, bringing in a fresh burst of color and energy for commuters and visitors alike. According to Tokyo Metro,

"Through this piece, we aim to bring new color and vitality to Ginza Station and elevate the station's atmosphere to an even richer and more appealing one."

During the unveiling, Ōtomo expressed the philosophy behind his work:

"This piece embodies the flow of art, extending from the Jomon period to the present and beyond... It now belongs to the viewer, and I hope they find something within it that resonates with them."

A notable feature of the sculpture is the inclusion of Akira's protagonist, Shōtarō Kaneda, depicted riding his iconic motorcycle. This detail not only honors Ōtomo's legacy but also invites fans of Akira to connect with the art on a personal level.

Procession Spin is situated near the B1 exit of Ginza Station, making it easily accessible for those passing through.
