New Kaguya-sama Special Set for Year-End Release

Fans of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War have exciting news as the beloved anime is set to return with a special titled The Stairway To Adulthood on December 31. This announcement was made via the anime's official X account, along with the release of an engaging new trailer.

Theme Song Collaboration

Masayuki Suzuki will once again be performing the opening theme, now collaborating with Aoi Koga on the track "Abunai Kioku" (Dangerous Memory). This marks Suzuki's fifth consecutive opening theme since the series began airing in 2019.

Reflecting on his long connection to the series, Suzuki shared, “This marks my fifth consecutive time performing the opening theme. I will be turning 70 next year, and being able to continue walking alongside such a wonderful work makes me truly feel the meaning of having sung for 45 years.” He emphasized the new romantic challenges faced by the characters, enriched by Koga's performance, stating, “I think it captures the new romantic mind games between the two protagonists, now three years later.”

Koga's Reaction

Koga expressed her excitement and honor at this collaboration. "I never imagined I would get to sing the opening with him! It’s an incredible honor... I hope everyone listens to the song a lot and enjoys expanding the world of Kaguya-sama,” she said.

Key Production Details

The special will air at 10 p.m. JST on multiple Japanese networks, including TOKYO MX, BS11, and Tochigi TV. It will be helmed by returning director Shinichi Omata at A-1 Pictures, with character design by Yuko Yahiro and music composed by Kei Haneoka.

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War first aired in 2019, followed by subsequent seasons and an OVA. The manga, created by Aka Akasaka, was serialized until November 2022 and is available in English through Viz Media.
