In a notable development for anime adaptations, Jason Fuchs, who has worked on projects like Wonder Woman and Argylle, has been chosen to script a live-action film based on Kōhei Horikoshi's popular manga, My Hero Academia. The film will be produced by Legendary Entertainment and distributed by Netflix.

Originally, Joby Harold was set to write the script, but the role has now transitioned to Fuchs. Shinsuke Satō, known for his work on live-action adaptations like Bleach and Alice in Borderland, will direct the film.

Álex García and Jay Ashenfelter are managing the project for Legendary, while Ryōsuke Yoritomi, the editor of the manga, is overseeing its production for Shueisha. In Japan, the film will be distributed by TOHO.

Horikoshi launched My Hero Academia in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014, concluding it in August 2024. The series gained immense popularity, surpassing 100 million copies in circulation globally by April 2024. Viz Media publishes the English version, and Shueisha's MANGA Plus service also provides digital access to the manga.

Fans can anticipate the premiere of the final season of the animated adaptation on October 4, along with the release of My Hero Academia: You're Next, the fourth film in the series, which opened in Japanese theaters in August 2024. This film will also be screened in U.S. theaters on October 11.

The series' spinoff, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, already has a television adaptation that began airing on April 7, streaming worldwide excluding Asia via Crunchyroll, and is set to receive a second season in 2026.
