"The Summer Hikaru Died" second season is officially in production.
The highly anticipated second season of Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu (The Summer Hikaru Died) has been confirmed following the broadcast of its final episode. This announcement was made on Sunday and was accompanied by a striking visual and promotional video displayed on the official website.
This anime, produced by CygamesPictures, is based on a supernatural mystery manga by Mokumokuren and premiered on July 6. It also gained global attention when it was streamed on Netflix with subtitles in various languages.
Mokumokuren initially shared the manga via their X account (formerly Twitter) before it was serialized on Young Ace UP starting in August 2021. The seventh volume was published by Kadokawa on July 4.
In a related development, Mio Nukaga began writing a light novel adaptation for Kadokawa Shoten in December 2023, with the second volume also released on July 4.
Additionally, Yen Press acquired the English licensing rights for the manga in September 2022, releasing its fifth volume in March, and is set to release the sixth volume on October 28. The light novel adaptation is also expected to be licensed by Yen Press in October 2024.
