HIDIVE has revealed that it will add all 42 episodes of the television anime adaptation of Leiji Matsumoto's Queen Millennia, originally based on his manga, on September 2. This series, known in Japan as Shin Taketori Monogatari Sennen Joō, will be available for streaming in Japanese with English subtitles. On the same day, Sentai Filmworks will release a Complete Collection Blu-ray Disc featuring all episodes.

The story centers around Professor Amamori, who discovers a new planet in our solar system—Larmetal—that poses a grave threat to Earth. Larmetal's trajectory indicates a potential collision with our planet, triggering a race against time. In a twist, Amamori's assistant, Yayoi Yukino, has been sent from Larmetal to gather humans for enslavement. However, her interactions with Earthlings, particularly Amamori's nephew Hajime, challenge her mission and lead her to question her motives. The classic space opera intricately weaves themes of love, duty, and the fight for humanity's survival.

Originally aired by Toei Doga (now Toei Animation) from 1981 to 1982, the Queen Millennia anime has garnered nostalgic interest over the years. An accompanying movie was released in 1982, and additional footage was combined with Captain Harlock for a series titled Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years. Matsumoto serialized the manga between 1980 and 1983, cementing its place in anime history.
