Kojima's dream journal unveils bizarre and nightmarish visions.
Hideo Kojima's Eerie Dream Journal
Hideo Kojima, known for his vivid and imaginative storytelling, recently shared an unsettling entry from his dream journal, detailing a nightmarish experience that feels pulled from one of his games. The acclaimed game designer recounted this chilling dream on X, revealing his ongoing struggle with frightening dreams dating back to early 2017.
The Unsettling Dream
Kojima's dream begins with him relocating to a remote hot spring town, where he finds himself in a uniquely isolated boarding house. As he describes it, the house has “only a back entrance,” surrounded by tight, twisting alleys cluttered with items where only one person can pass at a time.
Determined to be a good neighbor, he sets out to tidy up the narrow pathways, which he notes are made of “packed-down dirt.” In a surreal turn, he begins spraying water to keep the dust down, only to encounter an array of peculiar residents during his cleanup.
The Bizarre Encounters
His neighbors manifest as voluptuous nude women, seemingly lifted from artistic sketches, alongside elderly men covered in scars who speak in foreign languages. The atmosphere quickly shifts from mundane to horrific.
Upon returning to his room, he notices an alarming sight: four decomposing corpses partially buried along the path. These bodies are eerily aligned, presenting a sight reminiscent of artistic swimming variations.
The Nightmarish Twist
Rather than panicking, he instinctively plans to contact the authorities, but before he can act, the corpses spring to life. They enter his room as if they belonged there, adding to the surreal nature of the dream. Just as the bizarre scene unfolds, a doorbell chimes, introducing another layer of confusion.
In a further twist, the decomposed forms transform back into young men donning relay race uniforms, accompanied by a coach who enters uninvited, scolding them for unknown reasons. The sheer oddity of these occurrences illustrates Kojima’s unique blend of creativity and horror.
While Kojima has not confirmed if he will share more entries from this project, his dream journal hints at a treasure trove of unsettling yet creative inspirations. Even in his sleep, Kojima’s mind is an endless source of bizarre worlds and imagery.

This morning’s dream.
I move alone to some hot spring town. The boarding house I end up living in has only a back entrance, and the area around it is surrounded by narrow alleyways. The alleys twist and turn, and because things are piled up everywhere, they’re so… https://t.co/ryN1ylegm4
