Exciting First Look at Highlander Reboot
Henry Cavill, known for his role as Superman, has shared images of his character in the upcoming Highlander reboot directed by Chad Stahelski. The actor posted two photos on Instagram showcasing his character wielding a sword, a nod to the film's action-packed premise. The first image appears to be set in Hong Kong, while the second takes place in New York City, with Cavill donning a stylish coat reminiscent of Blade Runner.
Cavill greeted fans with enthusiasm, stating, "Happy First Look for Highlander!" He described the journey of taking on the role as significant and memorable, hinting at a leg injury incurred during training that postponed production to early 2026.
A Story of Immortals
In this reboot, Cavill's character is a sword master who has lived for over 500 years and is skilled in various martial arts. The story intricately weaves through both contemporary settings and historical elements, reflecting the series’ original premise involving immortal warriors locked in a battle for survival. The classic 1986 film starred Christopher Lambert and introduced viewers to the universe of Highlander where “there can only be one.”
Chad Stahelski shared some insights about the film, revealing that it explores the character's long life and the themes of love and conflict in unique ways. With a mix of familiar characters and new elements, the reboot aims to build upon the iconic legacy of the franchise.
Supporting Cast
Drew McIntyre, WWE star, has been cast as Angus MacLeod, the brother to Cavill’s character. He joins a talented ensemble that includes Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and more. Stahelski suggested that the film could be the foundational piece of a broader narrative, stating, “The trick is when you have the tagline ‘there can only be one,' you can’t just kill everybody the first time.”
Henry Cavill, a longtime fan of the Highlander series, expressed excitement about taking on such a rich and challenging role. In 2024, he mentioned that viewers could expect spectacular sword skills that would surpass what he demonstrated in Netflix’s The Witcher.
