The official website for the popular anime series based on Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka's Grand Blue Dreaming manga has announced the exciting news of a third season. This new season will take place in Palau, marking a shift from the usual Japanese settings. A visual promoting the upcoming season has also been revealed.
The recently completed second season, which aired its final episode on Monday, has been noted for its online leak in July, where it hinted at the continuation of the series.
The third season picks up from Iori's diving training in Okinawa, as he returns to Izu with a letter from his younger sister, Shiori.
New cast members joining the series include:
- Aya Yamane as Sakurako Busujima, a college first-year.
- Sumire Morohoshi as Shiori Kitahara, Iori's younger sister.
- Yoshino Aoyama as Naomi Otoya, a high school student and cook at Iori's part-time job.
The original cast returns, featuring:
- Yūma Uchida as Iori Kitahara
- Ryōhei Kimura as Kohei Imamura
- Hiroki Yasumoto as Shinji Tokita
- Katsuyuki Konishi as Ryūjiro Kotobuki
- and others.
The animation will be handled by Zero-G and Liber, with familiar staff members such as director and scriptwriter Shinji Takamatsu being involved. Notably, the Japanese reggae group Shōnan no Kaze returns to perform the opening theme, titled "Seishun Towa" (Eternal Youth), in collaboration with the dance vocal unit Atarashii Gakkō!
The Grand Blue Dreaming manga, originally serialized in Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine since April 2014, has gained popularity for its blend of comedy and adventure centered around Iori's college life filled with diving and hilarious interactions. The series also includes a live-action adaptation that premiered in Japan in August 2020.
