GKIDS has announced that it will screen the latest film in the Lupin III franchise, Lupin the IIIrd: The Immortal Bloodline, in U.S. theaters from January 4 to 6. This highly anticipated anime film promises thrilling adventures and classic characters.
Film Synopsis
The story centers around the gentleman thief Lupin III, who, after narrowly escaping a series of assassins, receives a mysterious invitation to an uncharted island. However, his journey takes a dangerous turn when their plane is shot down. Stranded on the island, Lupin and his allies are hunted by previous foes and a formidable immortal being known as Muom, all while a toxic fog envelops them, threatening Lupin’s legacy.

Film Details
This film marks the first new 2D feature-length addition to the Lupin III franchise in nearly 30 years, following Lupin III: Dead or Alive in 1996. Although several other adaptations exist, this is the first significant new work in the traditional hand-drawn style, as seen by the confirmation of creative staff who have been longtime contributors to the series.
Additionally, the film opened in Japan on June 27 and earned approximately 130 million yen during its opening weekend.
Fans can expect the unique storytelling and art style that the Lupin III series is known for, enhanced by fresh music from the rock band B'z, who perform the film’s theme song, “The IIIRD Eye.”
