Gege Akutami, Creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, Unveils New Manga
Gege Akutami is returning to Weekly Shonen Jump with a new manga titled Mimojuro.
Gege Akutami, renowned for creating the widely acclaimed series Jujutsu Kaisen, is set to make his return to Weekly Shonen Jump with an exciting new project. This upcoming manga, titled Mimojuro, will be illustrated by artist Yuji Iwasaki, who gained recognition for his work on Nisio Isin's Cypher Academy, a series that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2022 to 2023. The debut of Mimojuro is scheduled for Issue #41 of the magazine, set to be released on September 8, 2025.
In this new collaboration, Akutami will focus solely on writing, while Iwasaki will provide the artistic flair that fans have come to appreciate. This marks Akutami's first venture back into the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump following the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen earlier this year. The finale of Jujutsu Kaisen received mixed feedback, with some fans expressing disappointment over what felt like an abrupt ending that left various plot threads unresolved. Akutami has previously delved into the challenges he faced during the conclusion of the series, revealing that his health significantly declined during that period. He acknowledged the invaluable support he received from Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, who guided him to medical care at a critical time in his recovery.
Fans are eagerly anticipating Mimojuro, hoping it will capture the same excitement and depth that marked Akutami's earlier work.
